Chelate?

I am a little confused on what a chelate is. Can someone explain?

just a compound with two or more ligands on the central atom

The above answer is incorrect.

A chelate is any compound that can form more than one bond to the same transition metal cation.
This is only possible for a compound (one ligand) that has one or more lone pairs on different atoms.
