Chapter4 Question7C

This question is referring to SOCl2.
I understand the Lewis Structure and the shape which is trigonal pyramidal.
But what I do not understand how the bond angle for OSCl is 107 and for ClSCl is 97. How do I come to get these numbers?

Well, with trigonal pyramidal shape, the bond angles are 109.5 if there are no lone pairs on the central atom. If there is a lone pair(s), then they push the non-central atoms closer together (repulsion). Since they are pushed together, they are going to have a bond angle of less than 109.5, 107 if you want to be specific, but I believe the professor and the TAs will accept "less than 109.5" for an answer.
