labeling hybridization

How would you label/draw hybridization if you had BF3?

You would label hybridization by drawing the three possible ways BF3 can look like. As shown in the image provided labeled B. You would show these are resonate by using the double sided arrows. Image

One way to do it is since we are labelling the hybridization starting from B to F, we would identify the shape of the atom based on VSEPR (for example Trigonal Planar), then relate the corresponding hybridized orientation value. There is a good table in the book than can help to identify it.

To do hybridization, look at the number of areas of electron density because this indicates the number of hybrid orbitals. BF3 has three areas of electron density so the hybrid orbitals must be sp2.
