Chelates: are the rings a part of the coordination sphere?

In chelates, are the atoms that make up the rings with the ligand attached to the metal ion considered a part of the coordination sphere?

I do believe so because the coordination sphere consists of the central ion or atom along with all the ligands.

Yes, because they are attached to the central, causing a share of electrons. They are what create the sphere
