How can you tell if a ligand is going to be acting as a polydentate?

If it has multiple lone pairs. NH2CH2CH2NH2 there is 1 lone pair on each NH2 group in this structure so a total of 2 = bidentate.

You can tell if a molecule is polydentate if there are multiple atoms in a molecule that have lone pairs.
