Coordinate covalent bonds

Postby Selena Yu 1H » Sat Nov 23, 2019 9:30 pm

What is the difference between coordinate covalent bonds and covalent bonds? Or is there no difference? But if there is no difference why can't we just call them covalent bonds?

I think the difference is that in a covalent bond, both atoms contribute electrons to the bond, but in a coordinate covalent bond, both electrons of the bond are donated from one of the atoms.

in a coordinate covalent bond, the electrons involved in bonding comes from one of the atoms, while in normal covalent bonds both atoms will contribute electrons
