This is when there are more than one central atoms that ligands bind too, a good example would be triphosphate where the oxygen atoms are the ligands and the phosphate atoms are the central atoms.

A polydentate molecule can bind to a central metal atom at more than just one ligand bonding cite as a result of a specific shape that allows it to.

A polydentate ligand is simply a ligand that can attach at several binding sites
