What is the coordination number/ what does it indicate?

The coordination number is the number of points the ligand can attach to a central atom.

the coordination number is pretty much how many ligand are attached to the central atom

The coordination number is the number of ligands bonded to a transition metal. So if the molecule is octahedral, it has six bonds and thus the coordination number is six. An easy way to tell is to count the number of ligands in the brackets(atoms outside the bracket do not directly bond to the central transition metal).
