Can anyone explain why in 9c.5, b) is monodentate or bidentate but in d) it is only bidentate? Both have double bonded oxygens so I don't understand why d) would not also be either monodentate or bidentate.

b) can be mono or bi dentate because of the three oxygens bonded to the central carbon, depending on the position of the oxygens, two of them will be closer together thus possible for bonding to the same metal, which makes it bidentate. The third oxygen thus is monodentate because it consists of only one binding site to the metal.
d) is only bidentate because the Lewis structure of oxalate shows that two oxygens are closer together on one side and the other two oxygens are closer together on the other side, thus makes oxalate bidentate because two oxygens can bind to the same metal at once.
