When naming ligands, when do we use -ate at the end?

You use -ate when there is a negative charge

Add -ate to the end of the metal name if the complex is negative

Add -ate to the end of the metal when naming when the overall charge is negative. Also take into the account that some metals utilize their latin names such as iron which would be ferrous but when negative ferrate

-ate is added to the end of the metal name when there is an overall negative charge to the complex

You add -ate to metal if the overall charge of the compound is negative. Its not very common though so its meant to stand out and won't occur very often. So be weary about this on the final.

The metal has the -ate ending when the compound is the anion and has an overall negative charge

You use -ate with negatively charged atoms.

-ate is used with there is a negative charge on the complex and is added to the end of the TM

You would add an -ate to the end of metal when the overall charge of the coordination complex is negative.

You would use -ate if the the complex that you are naming is anionic.
