How do you identify if something is polydentate?

Polydentate ligands have more than one lone pair that it can donate. They are also usually in the structure of atom with a lone pair — space atom — space atom — atom with a lone pair.

you could also measure the formal charge of the site with lone pairs.

The ligand is polydentate if there are more than one lone pairs that the atom can donate to the transition metal it forms a coordination compound with.
