Coordinate Covalent Bond

Postby Hazelle Gunawan 3G » Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:29 pm

Is it a coordinate covalent bond that connects a ligand to a metal ion in a coordination complex? If so, is the ligand the one contributing both e- in the bond?

Yes you are correct. Ligands form a coordinate covalent bond with a transition metal ion. The ligand would be a lewis base since it donates the e- pair and the metal ion would be an acid base since it accepts the e-. Because the ligand forms a coordinate covalent bond, it means that the ligand contributes both e- in the bond.

Yes, in a coordinate covalent bond, the ligands are the molecules that contribute both electron pairs to the coordination complex.

Yes, a coordinate covalent bond connects the ligands to the transition metal ion. The ligand is contributing both electrons since it forms a coordinate covalent bond with the transition metal ion.

As stated, a coordination covalent bond connects a ligand to a transition metal ion. The ligand contributes both electrons to the transition metal which is why it is a coordination covalent bond.

the ligand donates both electrons thus its a coordinate covalent bond with the tm cation
