"For each metal complex, give the coordination number for the metal species: [Cd(en)Br2]"
I'm confused on how to find the coordination number for this? And what does (en) mean?

:Hi! The coordination number is basically the number of bonds the central atom has with other atoms. If you look at the following link: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... pounds.pdf you'll see that en is ethylenediamine which is a bidentate molecule. A bidentate molecule would change the number of bonds a Central atom from 1 to 2 because they bind in 2 separate places.

Hi, the coordination number is the number of ligands bonded to the central metal atom. This can be found through looking at the formula and determining how many lone pairs are donated. For example, Na[Ag(CN)2] would have a coordination number of 2 because each of the two Carbons from CN- are bound to the central Ag atom.

(en) refers to ethylenediamine, the formula of which is C2H4(NH2)2 or H2NCH2CH2NH2. To calculate the coordination number, it is important to note that the en ligands are bidentate while the CO ligands are modentate.

Hi, its important to know that en is a bidentate ligand. Added with the two bromine, this gives a coordination number of 4.

The en is ethylenediamine (H2NCH2CH2NH2). This is a bidentate ligand, so it has two donor atoms and adds 2 to the coordination number. You also add 2 from the 2 Br.

Coordination number is the number of donor atoms that are bonded to the metal. So to find the coordination number, we look in the brackets and count how many bonds the metal has. So, when looking at [Cd(en)Br2], the (en) is ethylenediamine, which is bidentate, so it contributes 2 to the coordination number. There is also 2 Br so the total coordination number is 2+2=4.

Hello!
Coordination number is the number of donor atoms that are bonded to the metal. And en is ethylenediamine which is a bidentate molecule. A bidentate molecule would change the number of bonds a Central atom from 1 to 2 because they bind in 2 separate places.
So the coordination number of [Cd(en)Br2] would be 6.
Hope this helps!

Since en is bidentate, it has two donor atoms. With the 2 from this and the 2 ligands from Br2, you get a coordination number of 4.
