Naming coordination compounds

Postby 205677523 » Sat Nov 27, 2021 10:04 am

Hi! I was a little confused, when naming coordination compounds why would i say chloro- instead of chlorido- or chlorino-? Would the same hold true for any nonmetal? Would I say bromo- or carbo- in naming coordination compounds?

I don't think there is an exact reason why it's chloro rather than chlorido/chlorino; I think those are just naming formalities.

Yes, you would follow this same rule for other nonmetals. So, bromide would be bromo, fluoride would be fluoro, iodide would be iodo, etc.
