Parts of a coordination compound

In a coordination compound, which molecules are inside vs. outside the brackets and how do you determine what each part of the coordination compound it is.

Coordination compounds are compounds that contain a coordination complex (this is everything that is inside the brackets). More specifically, a coordination compound is a neutral compound consisting of a complex ion and counter ions. A complex ion is a coordination complex that carries a net charge. Counter ions are outside the bracket and they contribute to the overall coordination compound.
