further explanation of ligands

Postby Hannah Kaye 1L » Sun Nov 28, 2021 10:47 pm

Can someone help further explain ligands and what they are made of? How do they occur and what purpose do they serve?

Usually when we refer to ligands, they are part of a coordinate covalent bond where they play a specific role. Coordinate covalent bonds involve a cation and an atom/molecule that is electron-rich. Ligands are the electron-rich atoms/molecules in this interaction basically. So for your question what they are made of, basically I think just elements/atoms of these elements. I'm not completely sure about the other two questions though, sorry.
