Ligands

Postby mya warner 2C » Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:58 pm

I have watched the lecture and looked it up, but can someone put it in simple terms what exactly a ligand is and what types of questions might come up about ligands on the final/how would you solve them easily? I'm not exactly sure how they come into play.

Ligands bond to the central atom and are lewis bases, so they are the electron donor species. The central atom will act as the lewis acid, so it accepts the electron pairs. As said in lecture, ligands directly attach to the central ion to make up the coordination sphere as well.
