Structure of Coordination Compounds

Postby Nick Smith 2H » Tue Dec 07, 2021 2:35 am

Does the vsepr shape of a coordination compound solely rely on the arrangement of the ligands around the central atom? Or does the shape of the ligands have an effect on the classification of the shape of the coordination compound as a whole?

I believe just the ligands (and lone pairs) that are directly attached to the central atom have a role in determining its vsper model shape.
