What is the role of coordination compounds in biological systems?

Some examples we talked about in class of coordination compounds having a significant role were Myoglobin and Hemoglobin

They have a variety of uses in biological systems and it is largely dependent on the actual transition metal forming the coordination compound, however, they are generally used as vehicles for e- transfer and often bind together in the creation of larger structures given their ability and inclination to form large cagelike structures.
