What was the relationship between cisplatin in cis and trans molecules?

Cisplatin acts as a chemotherapy drug it binds to the exposed Nitrogens on Guanine that result from the duplication of DNA. The two Cl atoms to be next to each other because cisplatin needs to bind to Guanine in 2 places for the bond to be strong enough. This is why transplatin would not work because the two Cl atoms would not be next to each other.
