Cisplatin vs Transplatin

Postby Maritza Jacobo » Sat Dec 09, 2023 2:05 am

What's the difference between cisplatin and transplatin in a biological sense? I know cisplatin forms a coordination compound with DNA to stop cell division, but what does transplatin do?

Cisplatin is used as a chemotherapy drug because the Cls are on the same side, so they can bind with the DNA to stop cell division. In transplatin, the Cls are on opposite sides, so they are not both able to bind to the DNA molecule, and they can be easily knocked off.
