Memorization of compounds

Postby Madeline Musselman 3H » Sun Nov 26, 2017 11:39 pm

In the book, the naming of certain compounds was included in a chart of Chapter 17. Would it be helpful to memorize the names of certain compounds for Test4?

I think it might be helpful to memorize the names of certain compounds; however, I think it would be a lot more helpful to have a general understanding of how to name coordination compounds.

I think it'd be best to know how to name the compounds rather than memorizing, Lavelle seems to emphasize having an understanding of how to do something so that you don't have to memorize. But some memorization can't hurt I suppose.

I’d memorize them. The more tools you have in your toolbox, the better.

Should we also memorize the charge of each ligand?

Yes! I believe we will need to know the charge of most ligands, at least many of the simple ones.
