Biological Examples
Will biological examples be specific information we need to know for the final? Like is there a chance they show up?

Re: Biological Examples
Because conceptual questions are included in Lavelle's midterms and final, it would definitely be helpful to know the biological examples/functions of the transition metals he went over in class. I don't think he'd test us on an obscure example he didn't go over in depth.

Cis-platin and how it interacts with the guanine in DNA. I feel like he'd put this because he spent a good amount of time explaining it.

Re: Biological Examples
I think there is a high chance that it will show up on the final, so you should definitely review any biological examples that come up in slides or learning material.
Re: Biological Examples
I think anything that Dr. Lavelle covers in class is fair game to show up in the final, so it would be smart to remember the ones he spent the most time on (if anything).

Re: Biological Examples
I'm guessing that the biological functions of the different transition metals will be tested along with the role of cisplatin in chemotherapy. It might also help to know why cisplatin is effective in comparison to transplatin.
Re: Biological Examples
It would also be helpful to know and describe the biological functions of hemoglobin, myoglobin and vitamin B12.
Re: Biological Examples
I noticed he likes to use those as examples in questions he gives out. I would study concepts around these examples since they seem to be fair game.

Re: Biological Examples
I think it would be helpful to know cisplatin as it was discussed in lecture as well as the hemoglobin example.

Re: Biological Examples
Yes, biological examples will definitely be on the final. Any biological example he mentioned is fair game. The ones to know in depth based on the emphasis they were given in lecture are: cisplatin structure and how it works, ethylenediamine and EDTA relationship, Porphyrin and myoglobin relationship, and know that vitamin B12 is a chelate structure.

Re: Biological Examples
I believe there will be handful of short answer questions in the finals, including the role of biological/industrial examples.
