Biological Examples

Postby Jada Brown 2H » Sun Nov 24, 2019 11:14 am

To what extent to we need to know the structures and functions of different biological examples? Which examples should we know best?

I think the ones he went over in class will be good to review and know for tests, as he did go over them in-depth (cisplatin and myoglobin).

Additionally, I think it is good to review hemoglobin in addition to myoglobin. For instance, know that myoglobin relates to the transport of oxygen in muscle cells while hemoglobin relates to the transport of oxygen in the blood and has 4 myoglobin-like molecules.

I'm guessing that the biological functions of the different transition metal will also be tested: Chromium - Assists Insulin in control of blood sugar; Iron - Myoglobin, Hemoglobin, e- transfer in the oxidation of carbohydrates, proteins, fats; Cobalt - Vit B12; Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn - critical for enzyme function.
