Transition metals and their biological importance

Postby zoedfinch1K » Sun Nov 24, 2019 3:54 pm

Dr. Lavelle listed a few transition metals in the first d-block that we had to know the importance of but I didn't get them all down in my notes. Does anyone have the rest of the transition metals he mentioned in lecture and their biological function?

The ones I have that he mentioned were Chromium (which assists insulin in control of blood sugar), Iron (myoglobin, hemoglobin, electron transfer in the oxidation of carbohydrates, proteins, fats (respiratory chain), Cobalt (vitamin B12), and Manganese, Nickel, Copper, and Zinc (critical for enzyme function).

I don't think you actually have to memorize them because he probably just wanted to show us the importance of these metals.
