Hemoglobin and Myoglobin

Postby Adam Kramer 1A » Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:22 pm

What is the difference between Hemoglobin and myoglobin? If we were shown a picture of the molecule, how do you tell the difference?

There are many differences but I think the major difference is that Hemoglobin binds with 4 oxygen molecules while Myoglobin binds with 1.

Hemoglobin is made out of 4 myoglobin-like molecules. The hemoglobin binds to the 4 O2. While myoglobin is the heme complex + protein and the heme complex is Fe bound to porphyrin ligand.
