Complex Ion Biological Importance
How is a complex ion important for biological processes? Or is it important at all?

Re: Complex Ion Biological Importance
Complex ions do have biological importance. For example cancer patients are given the chemotherapeutic drug Platin that prevents the DNA of fast-growing cells from replicating by binding to the Guanine base in the DNA and switching one of its chlorides with the electron-rich nitrogen of the G base, which the unzipping enzymes of DNA can't unzip.

Re: Complex Ion Biological Importance
Complex ions do have importance in biological processes. An example Professor Lavelle uses is the Heme complex, which is a tetradentate ligand that bonds to an Iron. The heme complex bonded to a histidine creates a myoglobin where the Iron picks up and binds to an O2. Hemoglobin has 4 similar myoglobin like molecules, which allows hemoglobin to carry 4 oxygens, since each myoglobin can bind to one O2. Hemoglobin is responsible for transferring oxygen in your blood.

They can have numerous biological applications! Complex ions are used by your body naturally, can be used as medication, etc. etc.
