CO bonding to Myoglobin

Postby Nicole Attiq 3D » Thu Dec 10, 2020 11:25 pm

Hi, I was doing Matthew's week 9 worksheet which asked about what species is more likely to bond to myoglobin: CO or O2. The answer was CO because CO is a Lewis acid, but I was confused because in the problem, CO ends up donating an electron to Nitrogen. Wouldn't that make it a Lewis base? For reference, myoglobin has four nitrogens bonded to a central iron atom with a plus 2 charge. Thank you in advance!

Nevermind, turns out the Lewis acid thing was a typo. Lol
