Re: Cis platin
Adding on to the previous post, cis- means that 2 particular atoms lay on the same side of the molecule. As discussed in lecture, when cisplatin forms a coordination compound with DNA this means that the cisplatin binds to guanine in 2 places to destroy the cancer cells at a higher rate than normal cells. Cisplatin, however, binds to all cells because all cells have guanine residues.

Re: Cis platin
Based off what Dr. Lavelle's lecture, Cisplatin is used as a chemotherapy drug because it inhibits the replication of DNA by binding to the guanine bases in rapidly replicating cells. The main side-effect of this drug is that cisplatin effects both healthy and cancer cells, leading to the myriad of side-effects when taking chemotherapy drugs.

Re: Cis platin
Cisplatin is a well known chemotherapy drug that is able to form coordination compounds with DNA. This binding stops cell division which is extremely important for cancer patients since they are experiencing uncontrollable cell division. I believe the systematic name is cis-diamine-dichloro-platinum(II). The structure has both the Cl atoms next to each other which allows for it to bind to two aspects of the DNA.

Cis platin is a chemotherapy drug that prevents DNA from being replicated by binding to the DNA.

Cisplatin is used as a chemotherapy drug to treat cancer. It inhibits the replication of DNA by binding to guanine in two places and preventing the replication of cells.
