molecular shape of heme complex

Postby Isabel Carden 1E » Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:45 am

Hi!

I'm a bit confused on what the shape of a heme complex is. In one review session I went to they said it was planar, but in another they said it was tetrahedral. Also, Is the shape only dependent on the nitrogens coming off the metal or do you also include any O2 and histones attached to it as well?

Thank you!

I believe heme by itself is square planar, if you also include the O2 and histone it would be octahedral.
