Enzymes

Postby Rohita Thammineni 2D » Sun Dec 05, 2021 2:03 pm

Hi! Can someone explain how coordination complexes involving Mn, Ni, Cu, and Zn can help catalyze enzymatic reactions? How exactly does the lone pair of electrons from oxygen attaching to these complexes weaken the oxygen's bond to its original molecule? is it because the oxygen is being pulled away?

I believe the ability for the metals to have a varying oxidative states plays a role in those elements being important in catalyzing enzymatic reactions.
I found a good website that goes much more into detail, and even lists different types of enzymes and their functions!
