When we find x in the solution will we have found the H+ or the OH- of the solution and how do we tell the difference.

pH is the concentration of H+ ions in a solution whereas pOH measures concentration of OH- ions.

This depends on whether you are forming an acid (like H3O+) or a base (like OH-) in the products of the reaction. If you are forming an acid, you would use x as the H+ concentration and find pH and if you are forming a base, you would use x as the OH- concentration and find pOH.
