Writing Equilibrium Expression K for a Reaction

I just wanted to make sure--In order to write the equilibrium expression, K, for a reaction, we must first make sure the reaction is balanced, correct? For instance, in homework question 11.3b, the reaction is:

4NH3 + 6NO = 7N2 + 6H2O

The answer key uses these stoichiometric coefficients for the answer, but when I checked to see if the reaction was balanced, I got that N is not balanced on both sides. In order to balance the equation, shouldn't the stoichiometric coefficient for N2 be 5, and therefore 5 would be plugged in as the power of the molar concentration of N2? Any help would be great. Thanks!

You're correct. In order to calculate the equilibrium constant, your equation must be balanced.

I would take the answer provided in the solutions manual to be a typo, as their stoichiometric coefficients are most definitely wrong!
