What has to happen to a reaction for it to reach chemical equilibrium? Are all reactions capable of being reversed?

Well, when a reaction reaches equilibrium, it looks as if it has stopped reacting, but that is only because it is going fast from reactants to products and products to reactants. The reaction rates are the same going forwards and backwards. For a reaction to reach equilibrium, it must be reversible, so not all reactions, like burning paper, are reversible.
