Why does adding inert gases not change the pressure of the gas?

Adding an inert gas to a gas-phase equilibrium changes the total pressure, but does not change the partial pressures of the gases involved in the reaction. Since the total pressure does not affect the equilibrium constant, the equilibrium will remain the same. That is, if the volume and therefore concentration of the gases are not changed, equilibrium is not affected.
