K is the equilibrium constant using partial pressures (this would imply a homogeneous mixture of gases alone I believe). Kc is the equilibrium constant using the concentrations/molarity (this may involve gases alone, or a mixture of gases and aqueous components).

If the problem gives the partial pressures, K will be involved

If the problem gives moles with volume, Kc will be involved
