ICE Box Question

Postby Julia Meno 1D » Tue Nov 28, 2017 9:34 pm

Hi everyone,
If the initial pressure/molar concentration of some reactants or products are not given, do we always assume these reactants or products are initially equal to 0?

You are only allowed to assume that the initial concentration/pressure of the products is equal to zero. Since the reaction proceeds only when there exists a reactant, the reactant will never have an initial concentration/pressure of zero.

However, if the initial concentration/pressure of the reactants is not provided, then you must use an algebraic expression using other values that would be given for the ICE table.
