Equilibrium Constants Involving Spectator Ions

What are spectator ions and why are they not included when writing the equilibrium expression?

Spectator ions are present, but they are not part of the reactants because they do not react in solution. You do not include spectator ions in calculations because they do not affect the concentration of the products.

Spectator ions cancel each other out so you do not need to include them in your calculations
