Temperature

Postby Jasmin Argueta 1K » Thu Jan 10, 2019 10:22 pm

During lecture it was stated that if we know the equlirium constant before the reaction, then we know the reverse as long as the temperature is still the same, Why must temperature remain the same? is it because evaporation factors?

I don't know for sure but it might be caused by the change in energy level and movement/speed of the molecules and also their potential change in state.

Yes, when temperature is increased, it allows for molecules to move around faster and thus interacting with each other more to create new molecules which proceeds the reaction forward.

The temperature must remain the same because a change in temperature will cause K, the equilibrium constant to change. If the reaction uses heat while forming the product, then heating will favor product formation, which is an endothermic reaction. If the reaction gives off heat while forming product, then heating will favor reactant formation. Both of these situations change K and thus change a reaction's equilibrium.

The temperature must stay the same in order for the equilibrium constant to stay the same.

If the temperature is increased, molecules increase their speed and movement. If temperature decreases, molecules decrease their speed and movement.

Temperature must stay the same because it can change the equilibrium constant!
