When to use net ionic equation

Postby Milena Aragon 2B » Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:55 pm

There are some problems in the book that mention that the net ionic equation must sometimes be used when determining K and I was wondering when this would be the case.

A net ionic equation is used to determine what has changed in a reaction. If the net ionic equation was not used, spectator ions would be there and have no effect on the reaction; ions would just be "floating around." In essence, you should always strive to use the net ionic equation when determining the equilibrium constant.
