Equilibrium Constant

Postby Vanadium Wang 4H » Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:33 am

How do we know whether products or reactants are favored based on the equilibrium constant?

If the equilibrium constant K is larger than 10^3, then the equilibrium favors the product. And, if the equilibrium constant K is smaller than 10^-3, then the equilibrium favors the reactants.

If K>1 then there are more products at equilibrium. If K<1 then there are more reactants. If K=1 then there are equal amounts of reactants and products at equilibrium.
