12.69 6th edition AlCl3 equation

Postby Arianna Ko 2E » Sun Jan 20, 2019 6:02 pm

For this problem, it is asking to find the pH of an AlCl3 solution, but I'm not too sure if I'm setting up the equation correctly. Is
AlCl3 + 3H2O -> Al(OH)3 + 3HCl correct?
From here, do you figure that the HCl would completely dissociate?

You wouldn't include chlorine since it would act as a spectator ion. Also HCl is a strong acid that dissociates completely so really you're solving for H+.
