For (b) in this question, I was wondering why we don't balance the equation first and then give K?

Write the equilibrium expression K for each of the following reactions:
(a) 2C2H4(g) + O2(g) + 4HCl(g) = 2C2H4Cl2(g) + 2H2O(g)
(b) 4NH3(g) + 6NO(g) = 7N2(g) + 6H2O(g)

That is a really good question! Usually we are supposed to balance the equation first before we do any other steps! In this case we were asked to only write the expression of K with no other calculations necessary, so maybe it was just practice to get us used to placing the coefficients where they belong when writing expressions for K. Regardless, I'm pretty sure we should always balance balance balance reactions!

I think the directions should tell you to balance it first.

I think they put 7N2 instead of 5N2 on mistake. However, you should always balance the equation first.
