Does anyone know what is the best way to study for the midterm? Also, does the professor hold any review sessions?

There are numerous review sessions held by the TA's and the UA's all of which Dr. Lavelle will post in this upcoming week! The review sessions cover certain topics so it is useful to go to the one's you have most trouble with. I find that going through hw problems is the most effective way to study and prepare for the midterm.

I think a good way to prepare for the midterm is by doing the homework questions. There are usually multiple review sessions held by the TA's which he will probably announce in class or on his website.

Homework questions are a great resource for the midterm. Also, I find that the UA sessions throughout the week are really helpful to do some more practice problems.

What I usually do for midterm revision is do all the homework problems and Step Up session worksheets and go over my lecture notes if there's a concept that I don't understand - I think this is super important because you can basically do any question once you fully understand a concept!

Best way to study is by doing the homework. If you understand the homework and understand the concepts you should be good. Also if you can get access to past exams that will help.

Since the midterm hardly had any thermo concepts, should we expect to see that more on quiz 2?

I would say to just do as many homework problems as you can to familiarize yourself with the way these concepts take hold in actual problems, although it is also important to understand the ideas behind the problems as well. I didn't do enough homework problems and it totally screwed me over on the midterm. Also, the TA's don't get to see the test until the day of, so take any predictions they have about the tests with a grain of salt (not to fault the TA's for anything, they are wonderful) and always assume the professor is trying to trick you with the questions given on the exam.
