### Midterm Ice Table

For one of the questions on the midterm, did we need to use approximations when calculating x? I got confused because I thought the problem needed it but I remember in class we were told there would be no approximation based questions.

I think there was two questions that required an ice table for the midterm. Only the question that specified no approximations could be made required the use of the quadratic formula. The other one however could be approximated.

The questions on the midterm should not be solved using approximations. Also, I think there is a statement by the question saying no approximation allowed.

You can solve an equilibrium problem without using an approximation. Approximations act like a short cut. If the questions stated to not use an approximation, you would do the problem using the quadratic formula.

I made the mistake of using an ICE table when we didn't need to use one. Because of that, I also had to approximate because there ended up being a cubic equation if I didn't. But it was not the right method to answer the question:(

Yes, Dr. Lavelle told us to not use approximations on the midterm, so you'd just do the ICE tables keeping x in the equations.

I believe we were not supposed to approximate and instead use the quadratic formula
