Ka/b and pKa/b relationship

Postby Jose Torres » Mon Mar 11, 2019 10:55 pm

What is the relationship between Ka and pKb? Does pKb go down if Ka goes up? Also, what pKa and Ka produce a strong conjugate base?

pKa and pKb are the -log of Ka and Kb. As the exponent of the K becomes more negative, pKa or b increases

It's better to remember the relation between Ka and pKa (vice versa with Kb) but the smaller the value of Ka, then the larger the value of pKa and thus the weaker the acid, if a weak acid has a small Ka value it's conjugate base will have a large Kb value
