When calculating k does the equation always have to been equilibrium?

K is the equilibrium constant so yes!

Capital K is the equilibrium constant. It represents the value you get when you divide concentrations of the product(s) by the concentrations of the reactant(s) once the chemical reaction has reached a state of chemical equilibrium. :)

when calculating k the equation won't always be at a state of equilibrium, we have to find if it is by finding Q and comparing. if Q=k then its at equilibrium.
