Equlibrium and catalysts

Postby jessicahe4Elavelle » Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:48 pm

Do catalysts affect the equilibrium constant or the amount of products/reactants formed?

I believe it just speeds up the overall reaction, both forward and backwards. If this is the case then the amount of reactants and products being formed shouldn't change.

Catalysts lower the activation energy needed for a reaction to proceed, but should not innately change anything about the equilibrium. It would only serve to shift the reaction to the right as more products would be made.
