What did Lavelle say was the reason that there are no units for K?

I remembered something like this: Technically, we should be calculating based on the activity of the reactant/product. However, throughout what we learn here, we assume that the activity is the same as the reactant/product.

There was definitely more that he went in depth with, but I wasn't able to catch it..

K doesn't have any units because we are using activity values. He used the example of finding Gibbs free energy change or ΔG0 = −RTln(K). I don't quite remember what the units are but I'm sure you can look them up and I believe we'll be covering this later on in the course. But in relation to the question, the resulting units of ΔG0 are based on the units for R and T, so if K had units we wouldn't get the proper units for ΔG0.

What is the difference between the reaction quotient and the equilibrium constant?

The reaction quotient demonstrates the relative amounts of reactants and products at any given particular time whereas the equilibrium constant demonstrates the favored direction of the reaction when the forward and reverse reaction rates are at equilibrium.
