weak acid and strong base

Postby annikaying » Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:29 pm

I understand how to calculate concentrations when mixing a weak acid or base with water, but what happens when mixing a weak acid and a strong base or vice versa?

Strong base will neutralize the weak acid. Depending on the concentration of the weak acid and the base, you will end up with only one of them left Then calculate pH as you normally would

When you mix any acid and base, the result is water and a salt. Generally, I don't think we're going to be asked to find equilibrium constants or the pH of such reactions (at least not yet) but treat it as you would any other equation. Given the information provided, think about how much of the original concentrations have reaction and what the hydronium concentration in the water is now to find pH.
